Founded in 1883, Benjamin Moore is North America’s renowned paint, color and coatings brand. Only weeks after the 2020 Fall New York Fashion Week, the release of the Benjamin Moore Color of the Year 2021 will make you want to pick up a paintbrush and transform your room. When paint businesses and design masters nominate their annual Color of the Year predictions, these hues are bound to influence home decor trends for months to come. Recently, the Benjamin Moore Color of the Year 2021 was revealed—Aegean Teal 2136-40—and like magic, this rich blend of mid-tone blue-green and grey will soon start to appear in homes across the country.
Aegean Teal is part of the Color Trends 2021 palette, alongside 11 other toasty, cozy and sunbaked hues that play to the senses. Andrea Magno, Benjamin Moore Director of Color Marketing and Development has expressed that the Color Trends 2021 palette containing Aegean Teal renders a mellow and warm quality. The slightly muted hue is intended to bring balance during an uncertain time. To calm the uneasiness in the face of the disturbing global events, Benjamin Moore used a distressed effect rendered to create the lived-in vibe that welcomes real connections and interactions within the painted space.
When selecting this year’s Color of the Year, the Benjamin Moore team focused on grounded and rooted colors, reflecting balance, natural harmony and consonance. As a pastel blue hue that is deep and comforting, Aegean Teal is the perfect natural color for nesting this fall and winter.
Brush this color on the cabinets, or paint it on the walls—it looks especially peaceful and soothing when paired with white cabinets for contrast. As our kitchens have recently become not just cookspaces, but also home offices and family interactive areas, this modern and versatile hue is the concept of home as a haven—a place that echoes a sense of tranquility. The idea of harmony at home was certainly the core. Because these colors have an inherent tranquility, designers and homeowners should feel comfortable to incorporate them into spaces.
Finally, the hue’s tie to nature is what gets it crowned the title of Color of the Year 2021. Benjamin Moore’s colors tend to ground and calm the homeowner, meanwhile infuse a sense of peace into the room, both things that could use a little bit more of right now.
